Program Evaluation

One New York City school received comprehensive Leadership services under a federal 100% Safe and Drug Free Schools grant during a 3-year period. Over this period, the target school experienced an 81% total decrease in the frequency of violent incidents, which is a 43% reduction in the rate of violent incidentts. Similar NYC schools reported an annual reduction of less than 3% over the same period.

High school students in all schools under this grant reported a 40% lower rating of hostile interactions and a 17% higher rating of positive social behavior in TLP classes than their other classes; middle school students reported a 29% lower rating of defensive aggressive behavior in TLP than their other classes; upper elementary students reported 33% lower rating of defensive aggressive behavior in TLP than in their other classes. Three other high schools in the same grant showed significant change in the level of suspensions to their paired control schools.
